They have worked hard to get where they are simply for the love of the sport. They have spent countless hours training and improving their physical prowess because they feel themselves fulfilled by it. But although the most successful athletes are the ones who are overwhelmingly motivated by their desires and ambitions, this does not mean that they can’t be influenced by outside circumstances, either for better or for worse.

As fans of the Casper Warbirds, you can make a profound impact on our players in ways that you might not even realize. Although our players are among the most self-motivated individuals that we have ever encountered, the fact of the matter is that they don’t just play for themselves–they play for you too. The relationship between the player and their fans is a symbiotic one: the players provide entertainment and inspiration for the fans, while fans give players additional motivation to continue training and playing to the best of their ability. When this relationship is going well, the result can be a great one. But when it is going poorly, it can be at the cost of the players’ success. 

Sports have a way of gripping the imagination of the observer. They cause us to become emotionally invested in the story–the story of two teams duking it out to see who will emerge victorious. While we have no concerns about our Casper Warbirds fans engaging in reckless behavior, it is always a temptation for fans to get caught up in the heat of the moment. This can take the form of both applying unnecessary pressure to the players or, on the flip side, taking their good-natured competitive talk too far as they talk with fans of opposing teams. Sports are, at the end of the day, meant to provide entertainment. 

On the other hand, fans have the ability to hugely improve the experience of players. Fans can make a constant effort to show up, encouraging the players to persevere and chase even harder after constant improvement. In one-on-one interactions, you can offer some words of encouragement to the players. You can also continue to spread the word about the Casper Warbirds, helping us to grow the Warbirds family.
