How We Can Have a Successful Future in Casper

Casper is a town that needs no introduction to the immense power of community. It is one of the biggest influences on quality of life; as humans, we are built to thrive in relationship with others. It has been said that an experience is not complete until it is shared with a friend. I have found this to be true, and this community aspect of sports is one of the things that will drive the Casper Warbirds on to be successful in all of their endeavors. 

The fact that the town of Casper already knows about the joys and advantages of living life together is a significant advantage when it comes to establishing the new NCDC team, the Casper Warbirds. Perhaps more than any place I might have chosen, Casper is already equipped to welcome the Warbirds into the community, investing in them and elevating the town in the process. 

Teams in any sport strategize and rehearse tactics before the first game has even started. By creating a game plan, they will be able to succeed more than they might if they go in blind. In the same way, I will lay out a kind of game plan for how the Warbirds can have a successful future in Casper. 

Finding Sponsorships

To begin with, we are searching for great brands who are willing to sponsor the Casper Warbirds. Sponsorships are especially important simply because they help us to fund the team. It can be an expensive endeavor to maintain a team, especially one that plays at a higher-than-average level. Still, with the help of sponsors, we will be able to carry on our day-to-day operations will less worry about the financial end and with more attention on helping the players and the Casper community as a whole.

The next step that is vital to the future success of the Casper Warbirds is the simple adoption of a mindset: we must take ownership of the team. This applies to everyone involved, including the team, management, and larger community of Casper. Taking ownership is something that seems so obvious that it is often, unfortunately, neglected. It is neglected when a player forgets that they are not simply an individual, but also a member of the team. Those who are simply fans or supporters of the team can fail to take ownership when they mistakenly think that the team can succeed without the help of people like them. The fact is that the Casper Warbirds need the help of members of the community of Casper who love both the city and sport. It is people with passion that can make the difference between mediocrity and excellence. 

Practically speaking, taking ownership means understanding the fact that the team is in the process of becoming a part of the community of Casper. More than anything, it belongs to the city now. Its name is a nod to this, calling back to the rich history of Casper. Bomber crews that were trained and deployed from the base which now houses the Casper-Natrona County International Airport had a significant impact in helping to turn the tide of World War II. The Casper Warbirds play in the name of that fierce loyalty that was so prominently on display in the heroic deeds of those warriors. While the stakes in hockey are, in the grand scheme of things, insignificant in comparison to the risks associated with war, we are still determined to do our part to honor a great legacy and to carry forward those same values that helped to guarantee the stability of our current and future community and way of life. 

Showing Up 

The final step of the game plan is likely the most practical: show up. This can be interpreted a few different ways, each of them offering a different angle on what it will take for the Warbirds to have a long and successful future in Casper.  

First of all, show up to games. Whenever you have the opportunity, try watching and staying connected to the Warbird’s games, cheering them on.
