Game Recap, Nov 15 - Warbirds vs Mustangs

by Eli Reaves

The Ogden Mustangs traveled to Casper Wyoming to take on the Warbirds in a two-game series. Game 1 started fast and physical, with both goalies shutting down every opportunity to score. Ryan Henry, the New Jersey native who has received multiple Players of the Week in the NCDC, stayed strong, and with this strong performance the game would remain scoreless going into the second. The beginning of the second period would be different, however, as just 3 minutes in, Ogden would break the tie with Brody Simko, who scored his 13th goal this season against the Warbirds. This goal was also William Cherniak’s 12th assist. But Casper wouldn't wait long to retaliate. Ty Bashaw, who currently leads the Warbirds in points, would tie the game at 1 a piece. Then in the closing minutes of the second, Brooks Cogswell would score for the Mustangs, putting the Warbirds down once again. Starting the third period, Ogden would lock everything down, and, with time winding down, the Warbirds elected to pull Henry for an extra attacker. But this play did not go as planned, as Troy Hunka would score and secure the 3-1 win for the Mustangs. Nevertheless, credit is due Ryan Henry for the Warbirds, who stopped 41 out of the 43 shots he faced.
